Much of the operational backbone depended on a legacy internal automation layer that lacked reliability, didn't integrate cleanly with Impartner data, and required heavy manual cleanup. One of the biggest issues emerged around partner certifications. Because certification logic depended on user roles, Smartsheet needed precise validation to ensure accuracy across partner tiers, locator rankings, and compliance dashboards. Previous tools batch-based updates which often produced inflated or misleading data. Non-sales users could also complete sales certifications to boost partner ranking scores, which distorted performance metrics and undermined program fairness. At the same time, internal teams were overwhelmed with Slack messages, emails, and manual updates triggered by partner requests. Comments, follow-ups, and review cycles required cross-team collaboration but lacked structure or automation.
